Conceptual Framework to Categorize Friday Sermon Documents with Web Scraping

Muslims have the religious obligation of engaging in five daily prayers, one of which is the significant Friday prayer, conducted as a congregational event following the Friday Sermon. Within Malaysia, the responsibility of providing these Friday Sermon materials to the national mosques is undertaken by the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM). These documents, presented in both Malay and the Islamic Malay language (Jawi), are organized chronologically, with the latest on top. However, this chronological sorting system presents a challenge for users seeking specific documents aligned with particular Islamic perspectives. To address this issue, the current research strives to develop a conceptual framework for categorizing Friday Sermon documents into Islamic perspectives. The approach follows the Waterfall methodology, commencing with requirement identification and analysis and culminating in the design phase. The central outcome of this effort is the creation of a conceptual framework, which is executed through a sequence of actions including web scraping to acquire the desired documents, document cleaning, keyword extraction, tallying of recurring keywords, and ultimately, the categorization of documents based on distinct Islamic perspectives. The practical significance of categorizing these Friday Sermon documents cannot be overstated. By implementing such a system, users stand to gain considerably. It enhances the efficiency of locating specific content, facilitating swift identification of desired information rooted in Islamic perspectives. This novel categorization approach not only streamlines the search process but also empowers users to promptly access content aligned with their information needs. As a result, the proposed framework contributes to a more productive utilization of these sermon documents, aligning with the broader objectives of aiding users in their pursuit of knowledge from an Islamic vantage point.
