Power grids ensure that electricity actually gets from the producers to every consumer. This makes a stable electricity grid the prerequisite for a successful energy transition in Europe (Child, 2019). A comprehensive transformation of the generation and the consumption landscape requires not only the mere extension of the existing grid infrastructure but also new approaches to make the grid more intelligent and therefore smarter.
